Boy Scouts kick-off San Saba County Fund Drive

The Boy Scouts of Texas Trails Council kicked off their San Saba County Fund Drive on Thursday January 12, with a breakfast at Pepperbelly’s Restaurant. Tanner Hawkins a San Saba High School senior spoke to the group about what it means to him to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Tanner will be the first Eagle Scout from San Saba since Josh Thomas in 1999, and will join approximately 32 other Eagle Scouts from San Saba County. Doug Moore, the District Scout Executive for the Pecan Valley District of Texas Trails Council addressed the financial needs of the Council and explained that the cost to support each boy in scouting was $150 per year, $500 to support a patrol and $1,000.00 to support a troop. San Saba’s Troop 55 and Pack 55 have a total of approximately 50 boys. Randal Hawkins, Scoutmaster of Troop 55, was recognized for his 14 years of service and dedication to the boys of Troop 55. The group attending the breakfast will spend the next few weeks soliciting financial support from San Saba County and if anyone desires to invest in the future of Boy Scouting in San Saba please contact Bob Davis, Steve Dyer, Mike McHenry , Jim Brozo, Jimmy Jones, Joe Ragsdale, Brian Sours, David Leonard or Jim Childress.
