A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD was held January 9th at 6 p.m. in the Central Administration Office.President, Kim Kirk, called the meeting to order, established a quorum present followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Trustee, Kevin Shahan gave the invocation.The following students received the honor of Students of the Month: Elementary - Braycie Vickery; Middle School - Javier Baez; High School - Kelen Verette and Jenna Sloan.The following received the honor of Staff of the Month:Elementary - Chelci Rodriguez; Middle School - Alton Tinney; High School, Rosa Jimenez and Shay Easterwood.January is School Board Recognition Month. The School Board of Trustees were given a calendar with school activities and meeting dates, snacks, and a video of students, faculty and staff saying THANK YOU! The Board of Trustees were also given recognition in an ad saying “THANK YOU for all your time and dedication you give to the district. We appreciate you!” The video of students, faculty and staff saying THANK YOU to the Board was presented.Dr. Mike Jones, State Representative Candidate for District 59, was a visitor. He expressed his concerns regarding school financing & how schools can get assistance.Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze, gave the following information:1. The next meeting of the School Board will be Thursday, Feb. 13th at 6 p.m.2. An update on the Building Project included a meeting on Tuesday January 24th at noon for paperwork.3. The 8th grade Promotion is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday May 25th and high school Graduation at 7:30 the same day.4. The board looked over the 2012-2013 school calendar.5. A report was given on SSCAD Budget Amendment.6. January 20th is scheduled as a school holiday.The following consent agenda was approved by the Trustees:A. The regular and executive meeting minutes December 12th.B. Amended 2011-2012 budget.C. Pay bills as presented to the Board.D. The financial report.E. Read and approved the training hours of each Board Member.Michael Bohensky, Assistant Superintendent, reported on CSCOPE, state standards, curriculum, STARR, TAKS, High School improvements, Elementary AYP progress and a meeting with Math teachers.Kay Shackelford, Elementary Principal, gave comments on the report given to the Board that included an enrollment of 320 students and attendance of 97.02%.Middle School Principal, Vicki Key, reported an enrollment of 190 students and attendance of 95.75%.High School Principal, Woody Martin, reported 199 students and attendance of 96.7%.Band Director, Bryan Sours, gave the San Saba Band Fall Update that included 61 Band students (7th-12th) signed up for Solo & Ensemble on Saturday, Feb. 4th at HPU -Brownwood; 5 ensembles (23 students) and 3 solos are class one; The San Saba Band Booster Promise; 165 students (high school & middle school) are in the band program this year; The Golden Armadillo Marching Band was in the Christmas Parade; Region Band report.One item on New Business: a. Consider Update 92 on First Reading - DFAA (local) Reduction in Force; DFFB (local); DFFC (local). Information was sent to attorney for advise and it was approved as presented. President, Kim Kirk adjourned the meeting and announced a short break before the Executive Session. During the Executive Session the Board extended Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze's contract one year.
