Ladies Golf Notes

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met July 9, 2008 for play day with the Chair for July, Anita Miles, calling for a new game called “Best At Something”!

Each player was awarded a point for every drive that is in the fairway, a point for being on the green in regulation, and a point for each one putt.

The player received a minus one point for being in any hazzard, loosing a ball, or any three putt. It was a fun new game that gave all players an equal chance to win.

The big winner of the day was Dorothy Sterner! She had 14 points. Dorothy is known for consistently being down the middle in the fairway and today it paid off.

Second place with 12 points went to Jo Ann Snow. Jo Ann also scored the low gross and the low net for the day. She had her best round of the summer! Congratulations to Dorothy and Jo Ann!

Hattie Rogers was a close third with 11 points. Sandee Hartley, Pat Ribb, Bobbie Churchill, and Anita Miles also participated.

We had a very special guest, Carter Churchill, the eleven year old grandson of Bobbie Churchill. He drove grandma in her cart and was the flag boy on the green for the ladies. He is such a handsome young man and was such a delight to be with. At lunch he gave his views on the upcoming presidential election and it was more than impressive! We hope he visits us again soon.

Last week it was reported that in the Flag Tournament only four ladies shot their handicap and progressed back to the number one green. Actually there were five. I omitted one lady and she is furious. Anita Miles was the lady that had one stroke left for the progression.

James Stewardson has finished painting some of the tables at the course and they are beautiful! A bright green that just enhances the beauty of our golf course. Good job, Mr. Stewardson!

The golf course was the scene of the young golfers clinic that is held every summer and it was a joy to see the boys and girls learning the age old game of golf. In this fast paced world we live in, it seems as though we don’t have many new golfers, and once again, the ladies invite all new lady golfers to join us on Thursdays for fun and “swinging!”
