Quick and easy Youth Fair Projects
Thursday, January 12, 2012 • Posted January 12, 2012

Are you having trouble coming up with some Youth Fair Projects for your children/grandchildren to do? Well, here are some ideas for some quick and easy projects.1. Mixes in the Food Category. The mix category is one of the categories for several reasons. It is very appropriate for elementary school kids who are just learning to cook to use a mix. Older youth can use a mix to start their youth fair entry. Lots of mixes have suggestions right on the box on how to use the mix to make a delicious cake, cookie etc. Most items will be done in 30 minutes to an hour. 2. Marker entry in the Art Category. This entry can be done on a 8 1/2x 11 piece of paper and several markers. Your imagination is the only other requirement for your entry. Make a picture of your dog, your cat, house, an outdoor landscape, or something from the book you just read. Something similar can be also done to enter in the map color or crayon categories. 3. Collage entry in the poster category. For this entry, a piece of poster board and some old magazines are needed. Rylander Library has magazines that they give away if you don’t have any close at hand. Pick a theme for your entry, like dogs, cats, food, football team, nature. Cut out and cover your entire piece of poster with the pictures. 4. Models in the Craft Category. There are lots of model airplane kits, model car kits, etc. Purchase one and put it together for your youth fair entry. 5. Create-a-card in the Craft Category. The card can be made hand made using a piece of paper and pencil, markers, crayons or map colors. Pick a holiday and make a design for the card. Or you can use the computer and make a card. Either way you will have an entry for the Youth Fair.6. Educational Project. Have you done a poster for school? a science fair project for your class? a special report for your history class? Any of those items can be entered in the Youth Fair. Anything done since last year’s youth fair is eligible for entry. 7. Single photography entry. Use the family digital camera to take some pictures. The pictures can be done out in the backyard, the park, your pet or of a building. Lots of pictures can be taken in 30 minutes. Select the one you like the best and print it out in either a 5x7 or 8x10 size. Glue a piece of cardboard the size of your picture to your picture and your youth fair entry is ready. The Youth Fair Rules are posted on the San Saba County Extension Website at http://sansaba-co.tamu.edu. Good luck on your entries.
