Ward (Goob) Ellis has authorized The Star, this week, to announce his candidacy for re-election to the office of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1.Eastland County, by a small margin of four points, took the championship of the State Pecan Show at College Station, Saturday, but San Saba, first runner-up, claimed the state queen. The new State Pecan Queen is San Saba's 17 year-old Patricia Renfro, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edwards.Plans are being made by the Highway Department, with the cooperation of LCRA and the city, to make the road safer at the railroad underpass on Highway 16.Joe Ellis of San Saba and Artie L. Irby of Santa Anna purchased some registered Angus cattle from J.W. Shook & Son, local Angus breeders, recently. Ellis bought nine registered Angus bulls. Irby purchased eight head of their registered Angus heifers.At the Corral Drive-In Theatre -- "MAN TRAP" starring Jeffrey Hunter, Stella Stevans, Plus 2nd Feature, "BLOOD AND ROSES" starring Mel Ferrer and Elsa Martinelli.80 Years AgoJanuary 7, 1932

With grainaries and barns full of one of the best crops in the history, with pantries and cellars loaded with canned goods, and with smokehouses containing sufficient meats, sausage and lard for the family table, the people of San Saba county are entering the year, 1932, with bright prospects.Work will be started soon on the highway about three miles from Lometa towards Lampasas to straighten what is known as "dead man's corner."The fur season in the months of December and January will net about $30,000 to the trappers of San Saba and surrounding territory. R. B. Bagley and J.W. Warlick are the largest buyers here. The cotton crop of San Saba county included 6,365 at the last government report according to Carl Bryant special government agent. This report was given out on December 13 and compares with 5, 278 bales on the same date last year.100 Years AgoJanuary 4, 1912

Jack Corker, one of the co-publishers of the Eye Witness, spent a part of last week with his parents in San Saba. Prof. Ernest Oliver spent the holidays with his parents at Denton. His grandfather, A.J. Oliver, also visited the family at the same time.W.W. Watkins has traded one of his post oak farms to Ed King for the latter's residence property in San Saba. Mr. Watkins has moved to town.Tom Foster and family of McMillin have moved to town. Mr. Foster has leased his farm for 1912 and will follow some other occupation himself.J.G.
