On December 13, the Dillos traveled to Brady for another non-district game. This one was a low-scoring, very physical game. We didn’t shoot the ball very well shooting 33% from the floor and 6 of 18 from the free throw line. They were very physical with us and the officials “let us play” if you know what I mean! But we survived! We went in at the half tied 17-17. Brady pulled ahead of us 27-22 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter we outscored Brady 15-7 with the help of a couple of three pointers: one by Clayton Perry and the other by Luke Cox. San Saba won the game 37-34. Leading scorers for the game: Clayton Perry with 12, 2-3pts. 3 steals; Luke Cox with 11, 2-3pts. 11 reb.; Ryan Pannell with 5, Zack Davis with 3; JT Mathis with 3; Kelan Verette with 2; and Aaron Perez with 1.On December 16, the Dillos hosted Blanco for a non- District matchup. This game started a little slow also with both teams tied at 7 after the first quarter. The second quarter is the one that got us with Blanco outscoring us 21-7. Blanco led 28-14 at the half. In the third quarter, we came out and got after them and cut the lead down to 28-36. In the fourth, we even cut it to as much as three points toward the end of the quarter, but ran out of time and had to start fouling, and Blanco won the game 47-40. We dug ourselves in a hole that second quarter, but our kids did everything they could possibly do to give themselves a chance to win and almost pulled it out. I was disappointed in the loss, but I couldn’t have been more proud of what they did in the second half. Luke Cox had a very good game scoring 20 of our 40 points, with 4 three pointers and 4 of 6 from the FT line. Others scoring for the Dillos: JT Mathis with 6 pts; Zack Davis with 5 pts; Ryan Pannell with 4 pts; Kelan Verette with 3 pts; and Clayton Perry with 2 pts.
