Thursday, December 22, 2011 • Posted December 22, 2011

On Monday, December 12th at 2 p.m., the San Saba Elementary students saw a 30-minute, action-packed performance that taught them how to prevent the Evil Trash villains from taking over Texas roadways. The Don’t Mess with Texas Litter Force taught the students about litter prevention with the help of the human-size Litter Force mascots, Hawk, Ultra, Bolt and K-900. Now in its fifth touring year, the Litter Force is a research-based Don’t Mess with Texas program by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Attending the event were members of the local Keep San Saba Beautiful Commission, Gail Bruner, Chairman; Susie Jimenez, Executive Director; and members Anna Wilson, Al Hamrick and Joanne Weik; Stan Weik, City Manager and President of Keep Texas Beautiful; local TxDot representatives, James Wilson, Maintenance Supervisor, and Jana Osbourne, Office Manager & Adopt-a-Highway coordinator; and Alice Smith, San Saba News & Star Reporter.“It was obvious the children were intrigued by the Litter Force. I was so proud of their polite and attentive behavior” said Stan Weik. He continued by saying, “The students at San Saba Elementary represented our school and town very well and were an outstanding example for all of us to follow.” Gail Bruner commented, “It is imperative that our youth understand the importance of being responsible for their environment and the Litter Force brought this message to them in a unique, fun and thrilling manner.”
