It’s been quite busy in Cherokee lately! Our junior high Indians and Lady Indians both defeated Lometa on Monday. The high school Lady Indians traveled to Menard on Tuesday and fell to a very tough Lady Jacket team. Our elementary and junior high students participated in the district U.I.L. competition and did very well. The 24th Annual Cherokee Tournament was held Thursday through Saturday. It never ceases to amaze me how giving and supportive this community is. As a coach and coach’s wife, it’s stressful to know that you can’t be everywhere and do everything, but I’ve learned that in Cherokee if you ask for help you will get help. I started writing down names, but I decided I won’t try to do that because I know I’ll miss someone. Therefore, if you swept the floor, served in the concession stand, organized or brought food for the hospitality room, manned the grill outside, took money at the gate, ran the clock, kept the books, counted free throws and everything in between THANK YOU very much. Our concession stand and hospitality room are very well-known and I’m proud to say the reviews were great! (When a referee asks for a ‘doggie bag’, after he’s eaten a lot already, you know it’s good!)If you missed the games you missed a lot of great action! All games on Saturday were close matches and gave us lots of entertainment. The Lady Indians defeated the Lometa Hornets by one point to capture their second tournament championship of the year. Gabe Perry was tournament MVP and Libby Lasley was All-tournament selection. The Indians lost in overtime to the Lometa Hornets, capturing the 2nd place trophy. Cham Fox won the free throw competition. Cham also received All-tournament honors. This week is another full week of activities. By press time, our junior high will have played Rochelle and the high school girls played Lometa. On Wednesday, the sixth grade has their field trip. The students’ Christmas program will be Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the gym. Thursday’s final schedule is 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th period exams. Friday’s final schedule is 3rd, 5th, and 7th period exams. Students will be released at 1:25 on Friday and will return on January 3rd. The Indians and Lady Indians will travel to May on Friday. Games begin at 6:30. Have a safe a wonderful holiday season!
