A new Christmas tradition lights up Woodlawn
Thursday, December 15, 2011 • Posted December 15, 2011

While looking around San Saba to see all the festive Christmas glitz and glitter, be sure to drive down Woodlawn between 9th and Hope, where you will find an array of lighted outdoor Christmas trees. Patty and Jarvis Shaw modeled the project after their old Austin neighborhood’s much loved tradition. Jarvis and his neighbor Val cut PVC tubes to provide tree stands. Patty and Vicki Hilliard tapped Randall Hawkins, leader of San Saba’s Boy Scout Troop 55, to place those pre-cut PVC stands in the ground to support the trees. The Scouts earned $5 for each stand placed. Many thanks to Super S who provided most of the trees for the project. So far there are about 20 homes sporting the outdoor trees. The neighborhood and the Boy Scouts hope that this will be a Christmas project that becomes an annual tradition all around town.
