B.E. Porter

B.E. Porter, age 89 of Bend, TX, died Tuesday December 6, 2011 at home. B.E. was born November 7, 1922 in Lampasas County, TX; the son of Velmer E. Porter and Nona (Henderson) Porter. He started school at Center and attended Lometa, Nix and Lampasas schools. B.E. joined the Army Air Corps and trained at Sheppard Field, Alliance, NE; Sedalia, MO and Camp McKall, NC. B.E. served during WWII in England as a mechanic. He was instrumental in several battles for the liberation of France, where he helped haul supplies, medicine and ammo to troops behind enemy lines. He was awarded the European Campaign Medal with 7 bronze stars; Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Victory Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Medal and 3 Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged November 17, 1945. B.E. married LaFayne Baxter on September 11, 1943. B.E. loved the land and worked at farming and ranching and taught himself how to be a carpenter. He was a homebuilder in Lampasas and surrounding areas for many years. He was a member of Bend Methodist Church, life member of V.F.W., Men’s Golf Association. Surviving family members include: wife, LaFayne Porter of Bend; daughters, Ann Wagner and husband, Robert of Lometa; and Sherry McBryde and husband, Bill John of Lampasas; son, Harold Porter and wife, Angie of Bend; grandchildren, Stacey Hendrick and husband, Jason; David Parker and wife, Beth; Colby Kelch and wife, Courtney; Kelsie Springer and husband, Kyle; Krysten Zauderer and husband, Brock; Brittney Jones and husband Brad, and Robert Wagner; great-grandchildren, Allison Hendrick, Alexi Kaufert, Lee Ann Parker, Mason Zauderer, Carson, Zauderer, Ryleee Jones.B. E. was preceded in death by his parents, by 2 brothers, 1 sister and his granddaughter, Cindy Parker.Funeral services were held Thursday December 8, 2011 at Sneed Funeral Chapel and burial followed at Bend Methodist Cemetery.
