Operation Orphans Deer Hunt a success

Seven girl's homes came to Camp Gene Ashby to participate in the "Take a Child Hunting" program with Operation Orphans, Inc., Friday, November 11. Boys & Girls Country, Hockley; Methodist Children's Home Main Campus, Waco; Cherokee Home, Cherokee; Texas Baptist Home, Round Rock; Presbyterian Children's Home, Waxahachie; and Don & Nadine Hughes Foster Home, San Angelo brought 19 girls to go deer hunting Saturday, November 12. The 19 girls harvested 8 whitetail does, 3 spikes, 1 management buck, 3 hogs, and 1 aoudad for a total of 16 animals.The girls and their guides spent the day in the field at 9 area ranches. Ranches participating were CGJ Ranch, San Saba county; Hahn Ranch, Gillespie; Karl Ransleben, Gillespie; Lov Kuykendall, San Saba; McMeans Ranch, Sutton; Northcutt Ranch, Mason; Operation Orphans game pasture, Mason; Rancho Rimar, Mason; and Woelfel Ranch, Mason.Individuals making sack lunches for the groups participating were Chama Martin, Sierra Martin, Aspen Martin, Dakota Martin, Sherry Lehmberg, and Joann Wimberly. Breakfast cooks were Jeff Carpenter, Eric Martinez, Chucky Martinez, Michael Jefferson, Samuel Martinez, Emanuel Martinez, Steve Jordan, and Sheri Jordan.Operation Orphans, Inc. will have three additional hunts, November 19, December 3, and January 7. These hunts will have boys participating.At this time, additional ranches are needed for the January 7 hunt.
