J. Wendell Smith passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011 in San Antonio at the age of 84. Wendell was born in San Saba, Texas on November 6, 1927 and was raised in Robstown, Texas. He was married to his beloved wife Lillian LaVerne “Sally” Smith and celebrated 53 years of marriage before her passing last year. He is survived by his two sons, Brett and his wife Tab Smith and Jeff and his wife Janet Smith; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; his brother Larry and his wife Linda Smith. Wendell graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville with a Master’s Degree in Education and served two tours in the US Navy. He spent the majority of his career as a teacher, coach and school administrator at Flour Bluff ISD. His life was devoted to the kids he taught and coached through the years. A public viewing will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Memory Gardens Cemetery.
