It was an absolutely glorious day! The weather was somewhat between perfect and spectacular, and fall weather never had it so good.Days of preparation culmin-ated in a feast for the multitudes, at "The Fathers House" Reception Hall as anyone with an appetite was satisfied to the fullest. The menu included smoked turkey, green beans, sweet potatoes, an incredible dressing and gravy, cranberry sauce and an array of pies, and other desserts that would make every sweet tooth in the county green with envy. As is the tradition, all of the desserts were prepared by a host of volunteers from home kitchens all over the San Saba area.As the serving line started for the 11:00 lunch, the volunteers were many and busy at their respective tasks. In addition to the serving line there was a "pick up and delivery station" to reach those unable to attend, and it was very busy. Historically, about 50% of those served get a delivery, while the other half enjoy the service of a helpful volunteer.Several components of the community come together to make this event happen every year. Along with both Super S, and G & R Grocery, who donate turkeys and other food and supplies, there are a multitude of individuals from the community that help with planning, advertising, cooking and funding! Many people volunteer their time and their talents to realize the true meaning of what Thanksgiving really is about. It's all about sharing, and helping, being truly thankful for the many blessings we have in a place called San Saba, Texas. The newspaper helps, the Radio Station helps, and many members of the church community help, people called the Sweat Equity Group from towns like Austin, Hamilton, Midland, San Antonio and Ft. Worth, come and donate their time and talents and share in the satisfying feeling of working to help and share fellowship with someone else. It's all about Community, it's all about Thanks, and it's all about a Community Thanksgiving. The fire department helped, the EMS loaned us tables and Jacobs and Sons gave firewood. The Fathers House Church let us use their Church facilities to gather and serve.
