Tuesday, November 8, 2011 was a very important day in the future of San Saba Schools. The School Construction Bond Proposition that was on the ballot was a vital component needed to help the District prioritize and plan for the facility needs of the school district. The uncanvassed vote for the election as reported by election officials was 210 in favor and 140 against during the early voting period and on Election Day 234 in favor and 156 against. The actual election canvassing will take place at noon on Thursday, November 17, 2011. Now that the bond has passed what is next in the process? School districts must follow a very specific process in procuring services for construction projects. The ISD has state policy and local policy in place to guide the superintendent and the trustees. This process is very transparent each and every step of the way. The three major components that must be in place before the process really takes off include: hiring an architect, procuring construction services and completing the financing process. San Saba ISD will hire an architect at the regular monthly meeting that will be held on November 14. Mr. Mike Nelson of NR2 Architects out of Dallas worked with the District during the preliminary planning time. Mr. Nelson will assist the District in the procurement of construction services in the coming weeks. Government Capital Corporation is a public finance firm who has worked with the ISD to apply and receive the Qualified School Construction Bonds. Government Capital has a solid history of working in central Texas as they have worked with the City of San Saba on multiple projects. This will be the first construction project in which the ISD will employ Government Capital as its financial partner. In the past the ISD has used First Southwest Company. Once the architect is hired, he will begin looking at completing surveying of the physical lots that are available for the projects. As well, during this process we will begin taking teacher and staff input as to the design and physical space needs to make the buildings as efficient and functional as possible. The ISD will post regular news articles in the San Saba News to keep the public informed about the progress of this project. As well, the SSISD website will be updated as new information becomes available. The ISD Facebook page has also become a favorite place for patrons to check for new information about the District. The most important item to stress is that questions can be answered at anytime by calling the central administration office at 325/372-3771 or by contacting one of the school board members. The administration and staff of SSISD as well as Mr. Nelson fully understand the importance of being transparent during this process. This is the philosophy of the District in all operations and this project will be approached in the same manner. Questions are welcome!Tuesday, November 8, 2011 was a very important day in the future of San Saba Schools.
