SSHS Class of '49 reunion held at Armadillo Arena

The Armadillo Arena was the scene for the reunion of the San Saba High School Class of '49 held on October 15th.Robert Arhelger, class salutatorian, and Ova Jean McDaniel Hutson, Class secretary, presided over the registration table, receiving donations to meet expenses for the celebration.There were pictures of past reunions, newspaper articles pertaining to achievements of class members and other articles for attendees to browse through as they enjoyed coffee, cookies, coffee cakes and fruit.Everyone paused at 11:00 to put on their best smile as Billie Shahan took pictures of those present. Rev. Tom Grozier gave the invocation, blessing the meal of pork loin with all the trimmings served by Gage B-B-Q. A cake decorated with purple and gold lettering was provided by Pat McKee Neff, making this 62nd anniversary a special time to celebrate.The reunion was dedicated to the memory of the five classmates who had passed since the last reunion held in 2009. Those being memorialized were Carolyn Kirkpatrick McCoury, Bill Kirkpatrick, Vivian Hamrick McCall, Nancy Sellman Skidmore and Pauline Gregg Stewardson. Arhelger presided over the time of reminiscing and reflecting, after which the group agreed to meet in the near future for fun, food and fellowship.Those present were Robert Arhelger, Nettie Oma Ragsdale Carpenter, Ann Holladay Grozier, Tom Grozier, Ova Jean McDaniel Hutson and husband, J.C.; Kenneth Johnson and wife Tish; Pat McKee Neff, Patsy Schneider Shahan, and Jean Neal Pulliam with husband Leon and son Leon, Jr. Teacher, Mary Sue Hinyard was a special guest for the celebration. Some attendees were planning to go to Eventide Nursing Home to visit class president, James Reavis and Billie B. McCoury.
