The Junction 8th grade Eagles defeated the San Saba 8th Armadillos by a score of 14-0 in Junction last Thursday night and was the season finale for both teams. It was a hard fought contest on both sides. The young Dillos came a long way this season. They were few in number but played hard and had a winning season of 5 wins and 4 losses. We had fun.Junction kicked to San Saba to begin the contest. Emiliano Rocha ran for 5 and 4 yards, David Valencia had 3. Rocha ran for 6, 5, 7 and 1. Valencia added 4 more and Rocha had 15, 3, 2, and 1. On 4th down, a pass fell incomplete from the 5 yard line into the end zone. Junction took over.David Valencia, Roy Argote, Holt Oliver, Logan Guidroz, John Welch, Robert Hensley, Ramiro Coronado, Roberto Coronado, Joey Salinas and Jose Robles played good defense as the first quarter ended, 0-0.The second quarter began with Emiliano Rocha sacking the Eagle Quarterback for a loss. Junction punted. San Saba took over. Rocha ran for 3, 4, 22, 9 and 2 yards. He added runs of 4 and 3 yards. The drive stalled at the 1 foot line and Junction got the ball. The Dillo defense held on. Big plays by Valencia, Rocha, Salinas, Welch and John Watson stopped junction. The Eagles punted. A pass interception stopped the next San Saba drive and the half ended, 0-0.John Welch was injured and out after the 1st half. San Saba kicked to Junction. Valencia and Argote made big defensive plays. Oliver and Watson were good on pass defense and Junction gave up the ball. Rocha had runs of 2 and 4 yards. Watson added 1 before the Dillos punted. Junction drove and scored from 25 yards out. The PAT failed 6-0 Eagles. Junction kicked to San Saba. John Watson had a great return to the Eagle 40. Rocha ran for 1 and 3 yards as the quarter changed.Holt Oliver was tackled for a loss the first play of the 4th quarter. San Saba punted. Junction made 1 first down before good defense by Hensley, Rocha, Valencia, Salinas, Watson, Guidroz. Ramiro and Roberto Coronado, Roy Argote and Jose Robles forced a punt. San Saba fumbled on their own 25 yard line. Junction scored from 25 yards out the next play. Junction stopped San Saba after the kickoff. The Eagles knelt the ball for their victory. It was really a good close hard fought contest.
