The Indians are going to the playoffs! For the second year in a row, the final district game has been the deciding factor between who goes to the playoffs and who begins their basketball season. The Indians definitely aren’t ready for round ball as they soundly defeated the Mullin Bulldogs 78-32. The Indians got their first touchdown in the first drive of the night when Burnam Sloan threw a 17-yard pass to Payton Tatsch. Cham Fox’s PAT was good. Fox’s on-side kick was recovered by Sloan, setting up the Indian’s second touchdown of the night just two plays later when Trey Shannon ran it in 33 yards. A short time later Shannon connected with Logan Lopez for a 21-yard touchdown reception. Fox’s PAT sailed through the uprights. The Bulldogs weren’t going down without a fight as they fought to stay within a few touchdowns, but the Indians stayed strong. E.J. Borchers threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Tatsch and Fox’s successful PAT extended the Indians’ lead. The final touchdown of the half came when Borchers ran it in from the one yard line and with Fox’s kick the Indians led at the half 40-30. The Indians sent a clear message to the Bulldogs that they were not ready for basketball when, with 9:09 left in the third quarter, Shannon ran 55 yards for his second touchdown of the night. Just 30 seconds later Borchers went 60 yards for his second touchdown of the game. Borchers’ third touchdown came with 7:02 left in the third quarter with a 21-yard run into the end zone. The next touchdown, a 17-yard run, was again by Borchers with 9:03 remaining in the fourth quarter. Fox made the final touchdown of the night, a 20-yard run, with 2:15 remaining in the game. The final play of the game saw the Indians graciously kneeling to end the game 78-32. Fox kicked 9 out of 10 successful PATs for the night. Stephen Austermann, Tatsch and Sloan led the defense. Lopez, who had 47 total yards, several key offensive plays and one touchdown, was awarded the Player of the Game. The Indians will meet Calvert for a Bi-district showdown at Evant’s Elk Stadium Friday at 7:30. Come out, be loud and show your support for your playoff-bound Indians!
