The first frost last week did most of the more tender plants in, but the pecan trees still have green leaves. It may take another frost to get them.A couple of cool days and now back up into the 70’s with a promise of rain, but then you just never know. A nice rain would be most welcome right now.Bonnie Millican reported that they wrapped their tomato and pepper plants to protect them from the first heavy frost last week, but to no avail. They picked the crop and will have them inside to ripen. She reported their tomato plants were loaded with fruit. Bonnie could always have fried green tomatoes or make a relish.LaFayne Porter reported that her great granddaughter, Allison Hendrick spent three days from October 22 to 25 recently in Nashville. While in Nashville Allison recorded three songs that were written for her. On Veterans Day she will sing the national Anthem at the Veterans Memorial Park in Kempner. This will make the fourth time for her to sing there. She also reported that she and Bernice are about the same. She did get a good report from her last visit to the doctor. The test that was taken showed that the cancer had not grown. Both she and Bernice are very proud of Allison as well they should be.LaFayne reported that all of their children came in Sunday to celebrate their father’s birthday. Bernice Porter celebrated his 89 birthday a day early. The children came in bringing all the meal, cake, ice cream and all the other good stuff to celebrate their father’s birthday. LaFayne reported it was very nice she didn’t have to lift a finger, the children did it all. What a wonderful day for the Porter family.Bill and Jo Price spent the day in Belton Friday getting in more hours that is required in order to be an Ombudsman. The group that attended also enjoyed an early Thanksgiving lunch which was outstanding. The next session will be in January.The Bend Methodist Church will be holding a spaghetti supper November 13, 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to raise money for the church. Mark your calendar and be sure and attend the event.November 19, the Bend Community Center will be having a monthly meeting. The food will be chili or stew whatever anyone feels like bringing and of course desserts. The meal would just not be complete without something for the sweet tooth. Everyone is invited to attend.A baby shower was held at the New Covenant Church Common Grounds coffee shop November 5. The baby, Ava Laine Preece is due in three weeks. Lesa Preece and grandmother, Malissa Lemons attended as well as Sylvia Stinnett.Hugo and Lesa Preece met up with their daughter, Kristen Preece in Killeen and dined at an Indian restaurant. No report as to what they ate or how they liked it, but you can bet it is something that is not served to you everyday. Eric and Ashley Hernandez was out Wednesday and had supper with Hugo and Lesa.Elsa Dean Shirley of Portales, New Mexico was in Friday to visit with the William Clark family and help put up all the Christmas decorations for the up coming event. Kristi Messer and Jamie Houdy-shell was also assisting. LaNell Daniels came out for a short time Saturday afternoon to visit with everyone before Elsa Dean left to go to Belton to visit her son, Kenneth and daughter-in-law, Vanessa before returning home Sunday to New Mexico.Charlene Brister reported that she and Jackie were in Rosenberg this past weekend to attend grandson, Zachary’s senior serve fund raiser for his senior class. They had a good time and had a very happy grandson.Happy birthday goes out to A.J.
