Joe Edmondson and Myles McDowell were re-elected president and vice-president, respectively, of the San Saba County Farm Bureau at its annual Family Night meeting, Monday in the school lunchroom. A.J. Brister was named to succeed Mrs. Sterling Smith as secretary-treasurer of the organization.Mrs. T.M. Sofge of Locker reports having received from one-half to one inch of rain on their acreage Tuesday night, and reports from three-tenths to one inch of rain in other parts of the community.Mrs. Winnie Brown, Librarian at the San Saba County Library, announced new hours during the remainder of the fall and winter months, the library will open at 11 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.Thomas and Tom Alan Sloan returned from their black tail deer hunt at Waldron, Colorado, last Saturday. Day and Knight Carter have completed the installation of the furniture and fixtures for the new Cafe and Market in the old Odd Fellows building north side of the plaza. The new glass front and the beautiful new furniture and equipment makes this stand a pretty addition to the square.Those romping Armadillos ran circles around a lighter Lometa squad at Fair Park last Friday, beating them 77-0 in a district game.District Governor Pearce of Menard delivered the Charter to the Richland Springs Lions Club last Thursday night. R.W. Burleson was master of ceremonies for the banquet.Miss Billie Shotwell was hostess to the senior BYPU Saturday evening when she entertained with a masquerade Halloween party.100 Years AgoNovember 1, 1901
George, James and Rufus Gaines of China Creek, who went to the rice fields in Matagorda in September to work, like that country so well they have rented land to make a crop next year. C.H. Matthews, also of China Creek, expects to go to that country soon to engage in rice farming.Tom Gose made a trip to Brady Friday of last week on his bicycle. He made the 45 miles up there in 5 1/2 hours, and made it back after night in 6 1/2 hours.Some of the stockmen of this county are shipping in cottonseed meal to feed their cattle through the winter.It is still dry and warm with very little prospects of rain.
