Basketball season is now upon us. Girls’ varsity basketball will play their first scrimmages of the year this week. The Lady Coyotes will scrimmage Brookesmith at Brookesmith on Nov. 1st at 6:00 p.m., and they will scrimmage Blanket at Blanket on Nov. 5th. Girls’ basketball coach Pam Starr encourages everyone to attend the two Lady Coyote scrimmages this week. Coach Starr was very complimentary of girl’s participation in the Eden Cross Country meet last week in Eden. The girls placed 1st overall in the jv meet. Taylor Terry placed 1st, Cheyenne Tharp placed 3rd, and the rest of the girls placed 7th, 8th, 9th and 14th. Come out and support our young athletes in UIL competition.Congratulations to the varsity Coyotes on making the playoffs this year. A good crowd cheered the varsity Coyotes to a 48-0 victory over the Mullin Bulldogs in the fourth game of district play. The Varsity Coyotes are now 10-0 on the year and 4-0 in district! The Coyotes wrapped up their 10th straight district championship. The varsity Coyotes have a district bye this Friday. The Jr. High Coyotes defeated Mullin 48-0 last Thursday, and the junior varsity team defeated Zephyr JV 22-19. Sixteen seniors of the Class of 2012 were introduced at last week’s last home game. The Football Sweetheart and Football Beau were also announced at last week’s game. Football Sweetheart is Ashlyn Grady and Football Beau is Ben VanCleave. October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Faculty and students participated in ‘HATS ON DAY’. Through this fundraiser the faculty and students of Richland Springs ISD donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research. On November 8th, voters will go to the polls to vote on the Constitutional Amendment Election. I am apprehensive that the Texas state legislature is about to take over the Permanent School Fund and put it in general revenue for them to spend at will! I urge everyone who cares about the future of education in Texas to analyze Proposition Number 6! Early voting has already started, and the general election will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. The legislature has tried many tactics to take control of this money over the years, and I’m afraid they may succeed this time. This is a non-election year and they count on very few people turning out to vote. There has been almost no discussion on this amendment so please spread the word about Proposition Number 6. I encourage you to vote between now and November 8, 2011.This Saturday night, the Booster Club will be having Bingo in the cafeteria with their chili supper to raise funds, but outside the cafeteria the Drama Club will be playing “Cow Paddy Bingo” and “Chicken Drop Bingo”. You can buy a square in advance from any Drama Club member or Mrs. Hall. Cow Paddy Bingo squares are $25.00 each and the prize is $200.00 cash. Chicken Drop Bingo squares are $5.00 each per round, and the prize for each round is $25.00 cash. The “cow” will be Gunner Mann’s livestock show steer, and the chicken belongs to Brooklyn McGinty. Please help us spread the word! It’s great to see our community supporting students in their efforts to achieve. We have a great community, students, teachers and staff. It takes everyone working together to achieve success. Thanks for all you do!Community involvement is the key to success!Richland Springs Booster Club’s Chili Supper (5:30pm) & BINGO (7:00pm) on November 5th, 2011 at the Richland Springs Cafetorium!Basketball season is now upon us.
