Deuteronomy 8:3: “He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.” Immediate help does not have the humbling effect that comes with last minute help. When everything runs smoothly, we credit ourselves, rather than crediting the Lord. Therefore, He may allow us to be humbled by fear or famine before delivering us. He often delivers by unexpected means, lest we credit ourselves with the victory. He could have delivered them before the crisis arose, but He gave deliverance in His time and way.If that delay has its full effect, it will remind us that our salvation comes from the Lord in His own time and ways we could not have imagined.
