What a beautiful weather week! The daily sunrises have been awesome and nothing beats an early morning cup of tea while God wakes up the rest of the area! After a horrendously hot summer, the kids want to stay out longer at recess, but the daily grind must continue. It’s hard to believe progress reports are out again and before you know it the second six weeks will be complete. I hope my kids are absorbing things quickly, because I seem to be running out of teaching time.We trekked out to Brookesmith to watch the football game. Russ and I and some of the older folks were discussing the battle of the sound systems. At times the competition was enough to cause either a heart attack or an epileptic seizure. Age is definitely a factor with this noise issue. I can see both sides of the issue. We are a silent crowd for the most part. I sometimes cheer for the other team just to help them out. Friday night was no exception. We scored the first few seconds of the game and had them 45’d before the first quarter. They finally scored, but we answered with another touchdown almost immediately. There were so many interceptions from Brookesmith, I lost count. We all became really excited when Brookesmith made a stand to score on the 2 or 3 yard line. It was 90 to 6 at the time, so there was no fear that we would have to stay another quarter. There were two seconds on the clock when Joe Avila intercepted the ball and ran back for a touchdown. I don‘t know who was more stunned, Joe, Brookesmith or the Coyote crowd! Final score was 96 to 6. I always feel sorry for some of the other schools. I saw Cameron Parham in Wal-Mart on Saturday. He was jubilant because the 5th and 6th graders will be playing in the super bowl for peewee football. It is my understanding that the flag team also won their game but the 3rd and 4th lost their bid for the finals. Good luck to everyone as the playoff season approaches. This is a home game for our varsity team. It will be followed by a 5th quarter at the First Baptist Church.Bro. Barry joked that since Halloween was on Monday this year that it was possible we would have trick or treaters all weekend long. There is a trick or trunk event planned for Saturday. I believe Paula Sue and Mary Kate have all the information. All I can tell you is that if you want to be part of this evening for the kids you need to decorate your trunk and park it at the Tabernacle before 6:30pm. The kids will show up after that. Monday is the official day for this spooky treat day, so at least two days will be spent in overeating fun.Marshall’s band the Blackbird Blues Band will be the feature or headliner band for the Oktoberfest event in Comanche this Saturday. The group will begin playing around 9:00pm. It sounds like a good thing to do on a Saturday evening. The Operation Christmas Child gift boxes are due to be turned in next week. If you wish to participate, there are boxes and suggestions at the First Baptist Church. The quilting ladies are headed to Brady for some shopping and food fellowship on Wednesday. The Fellowship of Christian Women has planned an exciting October meeting at the 1st Baptist Church in San Saba. The guest speaker for the day will be “Paul” who will be re-enacting the book of Philippians. This sounds like a very entertaining and exciting event. All ladies are welcome.Alfred Garrett is in Temple at the moment. I’m sure he would appreciate a card or letter from his friends. He is scheduled to be home on November 9th, but that much time in a hospital hangs a little heavy. His address will be Central TX Veterans Health Care System, 1901 Veterans Memorial Dr., Temple, TX 76504, Attn: S. Garrett. The deadline for obtaining your tax exempt number for farm use is just a few weeks away. If you have not gotten yours yet you can go on line at www.GetReadyTexas.org and fill out the form. Lucille Draper is in Brownsfield Nursing Home until she regains her health. Susan Luna received a great report from her doctor. Danny Tillery is doing better and should get to play ball again soon. Lyn Green, Layton Sanford, Paul Gibson and many others in our community need our prayers. Please keep your eyes open for all our little candy hunters on Saturday and Monday. There are needs throughout our community that only prayer can help. Please pray for our country, our President and our legislators. Please pray for the safety of our precious troops and their families. The recent scam artists who have been targeting soldier’s families need to be caught and taken out to the woodshed for a good sound beating. I thank you God for all the tanks that now contain water. I still grieve for all the cattle that head for other parts of the country. I grieve because it is the lifeblood of this area. Please God hear our cry and heal our land. What a beautiful weather week!
