50 Years AgoOctober 19, 1961

Officers and directors of the San Saba Industrial Development Association, at a meeting held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, decided it was not for the best interest of the community and the investors to continue negotiations for the location of the proposed garment factory, here. All contributions will be returned within the next few days.San Saba's newest industry, Burnham & Jones Pecan Shelling Plant, began operations on Oct. 5, and is well underway. This past Tuesday, employees totaled 20 besides Earnest Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Haynes Burnham, owners and managers.The 210 acre farm located east of town owned by the City of San Saba will be available for lease Jan. 1, 1962. The city will receive sealed bids until 5 p.m. Nov. 7th.At the Movies: Marlon Brando and Karl Malden in One Eyed Jacks.80 Years AgoOctober 15, 1931

The home economics club of the high school, with Miss Feda Moore, teacher, entertained with a sunrise breakfast and swimming party at the Risien pool last Wednesday.A.H. Shroyer is moving the stock of the San Saba Garage to Big Spring where he will locate for the present.Miss Ethel Bohannon of Goldthwaite is operator for the White Front Beauty Parlor.The Priscilla Club met at the home of Mrs. J.M. Kuykendall on Tuesday. A delightful time was spent piecing quilts and playing 42.R.A. Spears, after a business career of more than twenty years, has retired for the present. The building which he has occupied will be remodeled in the near future.

W.L. Swinney, president of the San Saba Marble Co., left Friday to attend a meeting of the board of directors of the company out West Saturday and spent a few days at Dallas, his former home, visiting friends and seeing the fair.Rufus Thornton made a business trip to Lometa last Thursday, returning Friday.P.C. Sloan has let the contract for an elegant mansion on his ranch.B.L. Underwood and family have gone to Rogers to look after some business matters there.
