Thursday, October 27, 2011 • Posted October 27, 2011

The San Saba High School Golden Armadillo Band under the direction of Brian Sours, color guard coordinator Lauren Mays, and drum tech Stephen Sullivan performed at the annual UIL Marching Assessment in Brady on October 15. The band is assessed using a standardized rubric that outlines musicianship, marching, tone quality, and various other aspects of marching band. There are three judges, and each judge gives the band a rating and then the ratings are put together to form an overall composite rating. The rating system for UIL Marching Contest is as follows: 1 (superior) 2 (excellent) 3 (average) 4 (below average) 5 (poor). The San Saba High School band received a composite rating of a division 2 (Excellent) rating. The band performed “Carmen de Seville,” and the crowd loved it! The kids gave their best performance for a tough judging panel. Two judges gave the band a division 2 and one judge gave the band a division 1. While we may have fell just short of receiving a division 1 rating, the band students are much improved from a year ago and that is something they should be proud of. The band will perform an encore performance at the game this Friday night.
