Richland Springs JV ran their record to 5-1 last Thursday night in Rochelle with their 4th consecutive shut-out, blanking the Hornets 48-0. The game ended midway through the 3rd quarter due to the mercy rule. The JV Coyotes have held their opponents scoreless, in more than 16 quarters, with scores of 50-0, 50-0, 48-0 and 48-0 in their last four games. Justin Trevino and Stanley Butler were the stand-out players in this one, both players were dominating forces, on offense and defense. Justin Trevino scored on a 55 yard run and a 35 yard run and threw touchdown passes for 30 yards and 18 yards. Stanley Butler rushed for a 30 yard touchdown and a 25 yard touchdown and had a 55 yard TD called back on a penalty. Butler also scored on a 19 yard pass play. Trevor Tinney caught a 30 yard pass from Trevino for 6 points and added 6 points on PAT kicks. Dillon Parker snagged an 18 yard pass from Trevino for a touchdown and had an excellent defensive game. Storm Teel salvaged an errant snap by scrambling and finding Stanley Butler for a 19 yard touchdown pass, and as the quarterback, triggered the potent Coyote offense. Wyatt Ramsey had his best game yet with big hits on defense and great blocking on the offensive side of the ball. Jacob Cohn was an integral part of the Coyotes offensive success, with blocks that helped clear the way for the Coyote runners, and was a big player in the Coyote Pack defense. Most of the Hornet runners were tackled by more than one Coyote on any given play. Coach Michael Brand has only fielded 7 players for the last several games, but these JV Coyotes are like the mirror image of the State Champion Varsity team, not big in stature, but very quick and hardhitting. Precise execution of the offense and swarming, fly to the ball team defense, have been trademarks of the Richland Springs teams for many years now. The Hornets will be looking for some revenge this Thursday as they are scheduled to face the Coyotes again at Coyote Field at 7:30 PM in the second game of the “Home and Home” matchup.
