Travis Shannon and the Angelo State University meat judging team returned home Monday, October 17, from a week of traveling to Sioux City, Iowa, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Dakota City, Lincoln, and Omaha, Nebraska, for the Royal National Intercollegiate Meat Judging Competition. They saw a lot of the country but were very glad to be at home for a few days before the next trip.Joyce, Randy and Brandon Capps spent the weekend with Maybelle and Gary Ray.Dianne Scott and grandson, Carter Wisdom traveled to Odessa over the weekend to attend the wedding of Fred and Jackie Vestal. Fred is the nephew of Joe and Helen Oliver...Franklin and Sandra Crain attended a family gathering in Blessing, Texas this past weekend. Franklin’s sister, Cornell accompanied them. Franklin’s cousin came from Oceanside, California to visit his sister so several of the family went down to visit with him. Some of them had not seen him in over 30 years.Cherokee First Baptist Church now has a Mommy and Me Fellowship each week at the home of Cristy Austermanm. The group enjoyed hearing guest speaker, Cynthia Brand share about, “Couponing and Money Tips”, as well as enjoyed lunch and fellowship. This week each child will bring a book to be sharedwith the group.It’s the same group with a new name and look, TREK...(A journey for God) is looking good in their new tshirts. TREK will do one outreach project a month. The 5th and 6th grade TREK Class collected food for the fire victims last month by going door to door. It was exciting to see how enthusiastic each child was about helping these families. This week TREK made cookies and took them to the Eventide Nursing Home, in San Saba. This group is serious about their journey for God!Esther and her daughters spent the week-end in Lubbock together. They attended the Country Peddler Show and did some Christmas shopping. While there they went to church services with Kala Davis and then took her out to eat. Kayla attends Lubbock Christian University.Doug and Cyndi Suggs enjoyed having his mother Lois visit with them for six weeks. They did not, however enjoy the trip back to Chattanooga. They stopped for lunch in Birmingham and as they were leaving Arby’s Lois fell and broke her leg. After surgery and nine days in the hospital she finally made it to Chattanooga. She is now in a rehab facility and will be there for a while. Doug and Cyndi are now at home in Cherokee.A special thank you to Jim Bob Everett. While stranded in Birmingham, Mr. Everett helped Doug and Cyndi Suggs secure medications that were about to run out. He spent extra time doing this for them. They greatly appreciate what he did.Keri and Keith Davis spent time in San Angelo with their daughter Carissa Davis.
