Dove Project holds Candle Light Vigil Service

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The local Dove Project held a Candle Light Vigil Service on October 12th at 7:30 p.m. at Mill Pond. Malissa Mims, Director of the Dove Project, welcomed the approximately 50 people in attendance and Tony Guidroz gave the invocation. Malissa gave information of violent crimes/victims in the state of Texas. 142 victims lost their lives this year, an increase from 111 last year. Special recognition was given to a young woman who was killed this year from Ingram, Texas. Her killer was apprehended by local law enforcement in San Saba.The Honorary Speaker was Courtney Sanchez from Austin. In her talk she gave some “stats” of violent crimes. Courtney is a survivor of an abusive and violent husband. She received guidance and information to leave her home with her children from a Domestic Violence source and knows she would not be alive today if she had not left. At the conclusion of her talk, she sang Amazing Grace.Tony Guidroz sang Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me at the end of the service. 142 candles were lit and released on Mill Pond to represent the 142 victims of violent crimes.October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
