Over 200 San Saba County residents including the Sheriff and Police Departments, ministers, teachers and parents attended a rally last Tuesday in support of the county-wide "War on Drugs" campaign.J.W. "Bogie" Anderson, Research Specialist with the Texas Forest Service delivered a Water Expansion Pump System unit to the Cherokee Volunteer Fire Department.Two local law officials arrested two persons and confiscated a large amount of marijuana Tuesday afternoon, October 7, around 4:40 p.m. at Deep Creek at Ponotoc, a subdivision in the southwest part of San Saba county.Maude Ann Kuykendall of Cherokee was presented Woman of the Year Award of the National Association Conservation District at Eureka Springs, Arkansas.The first day of the Pecan Grove Homecoming was held at the church beginning at 2 p.m. and a Hamburger Supper at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 27th. On Sunday, September 28th the celebration started at 9:30 a.m. followed by dinner at 12 noon with approximately 130 in attendance.55 Years AgoOctober 11, 1956

Floyd McRorey, Cherokee Stock farmer, was elected to a 5-year term as a member of the board of supervisors of the San Saba-Brady Soil Conservation District.Mill Pond Park filled in exactly 83 hours after the gates of the dam were closed at 8:05 a.m., Thursday of last week. Herbert Clark, Jr. guessed the time exactly.About 1500 persons visited the Golding Motors showroom to see the 1957 line of Fords and to register for cash prizes.Mr. and Mrs. J. Lee Daniel of San Saba now have three sons in military service: Pvt. Robert L. Daniel, Ronald K. Daniel, S.A. and Joel Daniel.Bobbie Lee Locker, Abilene Christian College freshman from Richland Springs has been named to the ACC Acapella Chorus.In the Ads: Crest, 2 for $1.00; Reg. size Tide, 23 cents; King size Dr. Pepper, 6 for 29 cents.At the movies: "High Society" with Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra.

Alvin Hall of Rochelle has arrived in the city and was enlisted as a student of Daniel Baker today. Young Hall is an all round athlete and will probably show to an advantage on the track as well as in baseball.Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Baxter of Harkeyville returned from their Concho County ranch last week. Mr. Baxter had been superintending the shearing of his sheep.Herbert Adkins has sold the Rochelle Record to Laurence Haddow. Mr. Adkins, it is understood, takes a farm near Eden.C.L. McCarty, cashier at the Santa Fe depot, has been sent to McGregor and the position here filled by Lester Carter.Dr. R. A. Lindley, Clarence Dofflemyer, Clay Kuykendall and Ward Holman are at the Brady fair.Miss Louise Carter arrived at home Thursday from her summer vacation spent in Canada.
