Richland Springs Volunteer Fire Department holds Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser

After much prep work done by the firefighters and their wives, the line started forming about 5:40 last Saturday. No one wanted to miss the fish and trimmings. The line reached from inside the building, out to the street and curved back around following the street for a ways. Richland Springs, Elm Grove and San Saba folks came together to eat fish, fries, beans, hush puppies, cakes, brownies, pies and cobbler, oh yeah, and banana pudding that was gone in a flash.Jeffrey Bates is Fire Chief and Chief Cook. Other fighters are Donald, Mike, T. Noel, Doug, Jamie, John, Ad, Shirley, Ginger, Alan, Ricky, Frankie, Doc, Joey, Mondo, Red, Regan and Tina. That's right, Richland Springs has three lady firefighters. Shirely, Ginger and Tina get out there and fight those fires with the best of them. Winston Poe, a new recruit will be joining the fire department this week and will attend the Fire Academy in Weatherford or College Station.They have a couple of fairly new trucks and are very proud of them, as they should be. The newest holds 1200 gallons of water . They have had the newest truck approximately six months but had to fully equip it so it has only been in full use for about a month. The trucks and equipment were fully paid for by donations. Firefighters expressed their appreciation to all those who support them on a regular basis and those who came out for the fish fry. They also were very appreciative to the Texas Forestry Service for all the help they have given in the last months.After a wonderful meal, an auction was held which included quilts made by local ladies. The auction brought in $10,310.00. There was a quilt raffle which brought $727.00, the fish fry netted $4,874.00 for a grand total of $15,911.00.Congratulations, Richland Springs on another great meal, fund raiser and wonderful fellowship.After much prep work done by the firefighters and their wives, the line started forming about 5:40 last Saturday.
