Thursday, October 6, 2011 • Posted October 6, 2011

The Richland Springs JV boys posted their third consecutive shutout last Thursday evening at Coyote Field against the Gustine Tigers JV by a score of 48-0. The Coyotes took advantage of fumbles and an interception to close the Tigers out at halftime via the Mercy Rule. The JV Coyotes fielded 7 players and all were instrumental in the victory which brings their record to 4-1, their only loss (26-20) to the Division I Lometa Hornets ending in a controversial last play, “no touchdown” call by the referees. Jacob Cohn had a breakout game scoring three touchdowns (one was called back on a phantom penalty), he caused a fumble which led to a score, and had 7 tackles on defense. Chris Munoz recovered two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown and had 6 solo tackles on defense. Justin Trevino threw two touchdown passes, one for 47 yards and another for 35 yards, and added a 3 yard run for a score. Dillon Parker had a 9 yard touchdown run and caught a 47 yard pass for another TD, and recovered one of the Tigers 3 fumbles. Dillon also kicked 3 PATs for 6 more points. Stanley Butler had a 52 yard run to set up the Coyotes first touchdown and caught a little flare pass from Trevino and ran 35 yards for another score. Butler also had a beautiful one-handed interception along with several other outstanding defensive plays. Storm Teel handled the quarterbacking chores, starting most plays with precision ball handling, and helped to safeguard the defensive secondary. Wyatt Ramsey added several blocks and tackles to aid in the Coyotes shut-out. Coach Michael Brand and his scrappy JV Coyotes will host the JV Cherokee Indians at Coyote Field on Thursday at 7:30 PM or after the Junior High game.
