It appears as if this is going to be another one of those galloping years. Even with all the heat, summer flashed past and here we are in the fall, heading for Thanksgiving. If for no other reason than that, I know I’m getting old. Actually I must be ancient, because the months go by so quickly, that it makes my head spin! My cloud came and went, but that 1/2” or so was just fabulous. I had my window open listening to the rain, when it dawned on me I might have left my car window open. Russ dashed out in the thunder and lightening, and came back sopping wet. Unfortunately, I had already shut those silly windows. I did remind him that it was good to have rain, even if you did get wet for nothing. I think I hear the trees clapping their hands with joy. I’m just not sure it came soon enough to save some of the oaks. Spring will tell its own tale.Open House was very successful. We have great parents. Every single 5th grade parent came by to see our work and a few grandparents as well. I think I will have to give Mrs. Ludechte the prize for outstanding mom. She hustled around and met all of her kid’s teachers! Mrs. Gossett had a good, but not a great book fair. The economic crunch affects many areas. Still, it was a good night for everyone. I can’t begin to tell you parents how excited the kids get, knowing you’re going to come and see their “best stuff.”The fund raiser for the fire department went very well. There were long lines of eager fish eaters waiting their turn at the fish pans! I think they set a new record for auction pies. Rennie Mann took home a $1000.00 pie! Candi told me they were going to break that pie out for lunch. I’m thinking I would have a hard time eating that slowly enough to enjoy it! Thank you Mann family, for supporting our community. We appreciate our volunteer department even more this year than in the past. This has been a horrific year for fires in Texas. The Butterfly Quilt that was auctioned off that night was won by Bobbi Lusty. I’ve decided the next time I want to win something I need to go rub elbows with the Lusty family! Hutton Lusty won the $50 gift certificate at the book fair, Bucky Lusty won the $100 at the football game on Thursday, and Bobbi topped it off with the quilt on Saturday. Talk about winning streaks!I went to the game in Gustine. Although we won, I suspect Coach was not entirely happy with his boys. We didn’t play as tight a game as we should have. We will not be able to afford any of those kinds of games come playoff season. Next week we play Cherokee, and then come back for a home game on the 14th. Gerald McKee tells me there will be a chili supper before the game, to raise money for the booster club scholarship fund. The game will be followed by a 5th quarter feast at the 1st Baptist Church. It was interesting to note that the Baptist Church in Gustine was giving a 5th quarter meal after their game. I guess that’s what has to happen in little communities that have no restaurants.Kathy Brockman was called to Gatesville to look after her grandkids while her son-in-law Keith went to attend a funeral for his 10 year old nephew. Lucille Draper is having circulation problems as is Alfred Garrett. I haven’t heard if he has been moved to Temple yet. Gaylon Robbins needs prayer for kidney issues. Weldon Faught is doing some tests for his health issues.I put out the call for photos of our service men and women, but so far no results. We would love to have your soldier’s photo on our Warrior’s Wall. Please get a photo to me, and we’ll frame it. My soldier is heading out very shortly. Those of you with loved ones serving in the military know this becomes a stressful time for everyone. Please remember to cover our precious troops and their families in prayer, and help out if you get the opportunity.I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Please keep our government, our President, our legislators and our troops in your prayers. We can keep praying for rain, since we need quite a bit more to make up our deficit. God bless America. It appears as if this is going to be another one of those galloping years. Even with all the heat, summer flashed past and here we are in the fall, heading for Thanksgiving.
