But Everyone Else is Doing It?
James' Juncture

Did your parents ever say this to you? "If everyone was jumping off a bridge, would you jump off too?"

For some reason, we have always thought that just because the rest of the world is doing something, it should be okay. But in Ephesians 4:17-18, we read, "So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

So what does this mean? It means that "everyone else" isn’t doing what God expects. We have decided to follow Jesus instead of "everybody else". So for us, it doesn’t matter what they are doing; it only matters what God expects for us to be doing.

They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts."
