Richland Springs Varsity FEASTs on San Antonio
Thursday, September 29, 2011 • Posted September 29, 2011

The FEAST(Family Educators Alliance of South Texas) Patriots invited the #1 ranked Richland Springs Coyotes down to the Alamo City for a game and some fellowship last Friday night. The Patriots were gracious hosts, offering a meal which featured a menu that was heavily laden with an assortment of entrees, including touchdowns (served passing or rushing style), interceptions (with touchdown gravy), sacks (fried quarterback), fumbles (greasy pigskins), tackles for loss (tossed running back), and of course, a dessert of PAT kicks (over easy). Coach Jerry Burkhart sampled all of the offerings, and accepted seconds and thirds of his favorites, but finally pushed his plate away at halftime. Is it just me, or does he seem to be slimming down a little? The final tab came to 70-14.

Denim Reeves must have thought it was The Last Supper as he went 3 for 4 passing for 3 touchdowns and had 2 touchdowns rushing, with back to back, 30 yard interception returns for touchdowns (pick sixes !!), he had a hand in 7 of the 9 touchdowns scored by the Coyotes. Chance Bush gobbled up the yardage with a beautiful 76 yard touchdown run and added a 36 yard catch from Reeves for a score.

Big Danny Tillery politely asked Reeves to "please pass the pigskin" and ate up two Reeves passes for touchdowns. Ty Mann snuck around the sideboard with a nice run for 9 yards and a TD. Trevor Tinney, filled up on dessert, adding 16 points kicking extra points, in spite of the Patriots being off-side on almost every try. Coordinator Shawn Rogers’ offense scored on a remarkable 7 of 15 plays from scrimmage.

On defense, Chance Bush, was almost rude to his hosts with 9 tackles, which included two for losses. I think he had his elbows on the table also. Gunner Mann had an outstanding game recording 5 tackles (4 solo) and a tackle for loss. Gunner may have had his best game yet, tackling, running, and badgering the Patriots all over the field. Denim Reeves had 5 tackles and the two pick sixes and Ty Mann had 4 tackles, recovered a fumble and contained the Patriot QB all night long. Thomas Fowler had 2 tackles and an interception and Trevor Tinney was a terror on special teams and notched 3 tackles. Danny Tillery, Patrick Phillips and Winston Poe all made the ledger with tackles.

Tra Williams did not score this week, but on more than one occasion, eliminated multi-would be tacklers with devastating blocks, leaving the Patriots with a bad case of indigestion. Thomas Fowler filled in at quarterback this week for the injured Ben VanCleave and did a heck of job. Ben should be back next week to help with the defense.

So the Coyotes had their FEAST in San Antonio, but the coaches say the boys are still hungry. Hungry for another victory and another ring. The Coyotes now 5-0 will next face the Gustine Tigers in Gustine at 7:30PM this Friday night. Go Coyotes Go !!!
