The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met September 15, 2011 for play day with a new twist on an old game. The Chair for September, Hattie Rogers, called for this game of ‘pink ball’, but rather than team play it was individual play. ‘Pink Ball’ is if you play with the same pink ball the entire round. Three ladies took the prize money, Hattie Rogers, who also scored a birdie, Dorothy Sterner, who was also Low Net for the day, and Jo Anne Hardy. Sandee Hartley scored the Low Gross for the day and also scored a birdie and won the ‘putt pot’. Anita Miles and Jo Ann Snow simply showed up and participated without rewards, their pink balls went swimming.
The Ladies also met for play day on September 22, 2011 and Hattie called for a game of T’s and F’s, that is only counting the holes that begin with those two letters, less half your handicap. Hattie keeps getting to call the game and keeps on winning. She was first and Anita got her revenge from last week by coming in second and scoring the Low Gross for the day and tying with Hattie for Low Net. Jo Anne Hardy was third. Janet Hoyt was the big winner as she chipped in to win the ‘chip in pot’ and also scored the only birdie of the day! Sandee Hartley won the ‘putt pot’ and Dorothy Sterner rounded out the competition.
Becky Hardin is back playing some, but Thursday she chose to play with her husband, as it should be.
Three ladies participated in the Guys and Gals over the weekend. Anita Miles and her partner, Jerry Minter, tied for Second Place in the First Flight. Debbie Lee once again paired with Mike Ivy and Sandee Hartley played with her husband, Jim Hartley. It was a fun tournament with several local couples participating. Kelly and John Reavis won the Second Flight. Keith Harris, our pro, knows how to run a tournament smoothly and always makes it fun for everybody with his charm and wit. The rains came right at the end of the tournament so many players like me, well, maybe I was the only one - danced in the rain!
Five ladies, Hattie Rogers, Jo Ann Snow, Sandee Hartley, Jo Anne Hardy, and Anita Miles, will be attending the Senior Women’s Amateur Golf Association Tournament on October 5 - 6, 2011 in New Bruanfels, Texas. Most have never played this course so they are looking forward to this event.
Winter is right around the corner and it does play havoc with golfing, so we’d better enjoy these beautiful fall days and keep on ‘swinging!’
