Hard Hats and Helmets
Thursday, September 29, 2011 • Posted September 29, 2011

One summer years ago I worked on a pulling unit in the oilfield. I worked with a man that liked to visit the local beerjoint every evening. One problem he had was his wife and mother-law did not like him to drink. When he came home he would be drunk and it made his wife mad. She would wait for him at the door with a broom. She would wack him on the head with the broom. I asked him one day, " why don’t you put your hard hat on when you go in the house?" He tried that but it did not work. When she saw him she turned the broom around and punched him in the stomach with the handle. He doudbled over and the hat fell off and she then really started whacking him with the broom. He was mad at me a long time for mentioning the idea. I am reminded that the Bible talks about helmets. They were a defensive weapon and were usually made of brass or bronze. In, (1 Samuel 17:5, 2 Chronicles 26:14, Jeremiah 46:4) Goliath had a bronze helmet also King Saul gave David his bronze helmet, (1Samuel 17:38). The Bible also talks about a helmet of salvation, (Isaiah 59:17, Ephesians 6:17). for those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior there is hope and a promise of being in heaven, (1 Thessalonians 5:8-11). See you in church next Sunday.
