On June 19th, the San Saba Ladies Golf Association met for playday with the Chair for June, Jo Anne Hardy, calling for a game of partnership play with the team playing six holes of low ball, six holes of Scotch twosome, and six holes of best ball less the handicap of the team. Anita Miles and Jo Anne Hardy won first place, scoring an 86. Sandee Hartley and Jo Ann Snow tied with Bobbie Churchill and Dorothy Sterner for second scoring of 91. The other team competing were Hattie Rogers and Becky Hardin. Sandee Hartley and Jo Ann Snow both scored a birdie.

Then, on June 21st, three teams of San Saba Ladies played in the Hamilton Two Lady Tournament. Anita Miles and Sandee Hartley were just out of the money in the second flight. Bobbie Churchill and Hattie Rogers had a good day because Hattie won the longest most accurate drive. We were proud of Hattie! Jo Ann Snow and Bette Odom also participated. The ladies had a grand time at the tournament, even without winning. The food and fellowship and golf is what it’s all about!

Next, on June 26th, the San Saba Ladies Golf Association met for playday. In the absence of the Chair for June, Jo Anne Hardy, Anita Miles called for a game of heads up golf between competitors with like handicaps. Sandee Hartley defeated her partner of Saturday, Anita Miles, with an impressive score of 88. Dorothy Sterner bested Bobbie Churchill by one stroke. Good match! Hattie Rogers edged out Jo Ann Snow, and Becky Harden won over Pat Ribb.

Next week, we will be celebrating July 4th with our annual flag day tourney. You will play your ball and add the number of strokes of your handicap and then plant your flag whenever you run out of strokes. We have played this game for years and it is an old favorite. It’s beautiful to see all the American flags across number 18, as most all of the ladies are very close in scoring. We will also have the monthly business meeting.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July and don’t forget our men and women in harm’s way who are defending our country still today, and making it possible for our beautiful way of life and even the little joys of “swinging”!
