Thursday, September 22, 2011 • Posted September 22, 2011

The Little Dillos 3rd and 4th grade peewee football team started the 2011 year off strong with a victory over the Little Llano Yellowjackets 14-8. The game was held in Johnson City on Saturday September 10th and began with a very exciting 60 yard kickoff return for a touchdowm by Sean O'keefe. The extra point was good for an early 7-0 lead. Following the ensuing kickoff, the Yellowjackets marched down the field on a 13 play drive of 62 yards of their own and ran the ball in for their first touchdown of the season. The 2 point kick conversion was good to put the Yellowjackets ahead of the Armadillos 8-7. The Armadillos offense was stopped on its next drive at the Yellowjacket 25 yard line where the ball was turned over on downs. After trying to move the ball on the ground, the Yellow-jackets ran a pass play that was intercepted by Sean O'keefe and returned to the Yellowjacket 4 yard line with 0:04 seconds remaing in the half. The Dillos had one play to score a touchdown, but instead were stopped just inches away from the goal line as the half came to a close, with the Dillow trailing 8-7. The second half was a defensive struggle between two very talented teams. The Dillos stopped the Yellowjackets on their first possession and took over on downs and then ran the ball in for a 40 yard touchdown with an impressive ground game led by Sean O'keefe. The point after was good bringing the score to 14-8. Llano had several opportunities in the third and fourth quarters to drive the ball for a touchdown, but the Dillo defense stood strong and played an excellent half of football as a team. The Little Dillos play here in San Saba at 9:00 a.m. on October 8th, and October 22nd. Come and support your 3rd-4th, and 5th-6th grade Armadillo football teams!
