Information on San Saba ISD Bond Election November 8, 2011

The SSISD School Board of Trustees called for a bond election to be held on November 8, 2011. The bond election is called in the amount of $5.9 million dollars. Please note the previous bond election that was held in May, 2011 was in the amount of $7.5 million and the November bond election is $5.9 million. The project has changed in a variety of ways. Please note the changes in the two propositions - Previous May, 2011 Election: new construction of elementary school, renovation of historic red brick gym for a band hall, new construction of science lab facility – 3 (three) classroom/lab rooms with common storage and prep space, no renovation of current classroom space in the high school structure for science labs. November 8, 2011 Election: new construction of elementary school, no renovation of the historic red brick gym for a band hall, new construction of science lab facility – 2 (two) classroom/lab rooms with common prep, renovation of a classroom in the high school to be used as a special education life skills room and renovation of 2 current high school classroom/science labs spaces to meet one compliant lab space.

Listed below is a more detailed summary of the November 8, 2011 bond project with associated costs: New construction of San Saba Elementary School – The new construction would allow for all students PK – 4 to be located under one roof for classroom instruction. A new covered PE space would be built with restrooms, stage area and PE floor. The total square footage of new construction for San Saba Elementary School is planned for 38,511. Total cost of new construction – San Saba Elementary School $4,254,750.00.

The Bond election amount is $5,900,000 and a local contribution of $422,750 will be made for a total cost of $6,322,750. Tax implication per $100 of property value would be in the amount of 16 cents for16 years and 3 cents for 25 years. : Total cost of building furnishings - $372,000; technology allowance – cabling - $100,000; construction contingency – $150,000; estimated architect’s/engineer’s fees - $337,500.00; Total Cost with Bond Issuance of $145,250:$6,322,750.00. - Renovation of 2 current science lab/classrooms to one renovated lab space that meets TEA lab requirements; renovate one classroom for special education life skills classroom space. Total cost of renovation – SSHS Science Lab $247,250. Total cost of renovation – SSHS Life Skills Room $56,000.New construction of a two classroom/lab space building that would also contain two common storage and prep space this is compliant to current school lab requirements. Total cost of new construction – San Saba High School Science Bldg. $660,000.00.
