San Saba ISD Board of Trustees hold regular meeting

The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a regular meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12th in the Central Administration Office. President, Kim Kirk called the meeting to order and established a quorum present with Board member, Michael Deans absent. Board member, Kevin Shahan gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

Celia Bell, President of the new High School Booster Club, outlined their organization and program. Their Motto is: Encouraging, Academics and Excellence.

The High School Student of the Month award was presented to Gisela. The Middle School Students of the Month are Sydnie Norris and Dynasty Saldivar.

The following information was given by Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze:

A. The October School Board meeting will be Monday, October 10th at 6 p.m.

B. The School Bond election will be November 8th at San Saba City Hall.

C. A Goal Setting/Team Building Training is scheduled for Wednesnday, September 21st at 6 p.m. in the High School library.

D. The Board reviewed plans for the TASA/TASB Convention (for small school districts) in Austin the weekend of September 30th.

E. Open House for all three campuses will be Monday, September 26th.

F. There will be an early release on September 30th at 12:30 p.m.

G. The Board reviewed the change in Bus Routes and Drop-Off and Pick-Up at the Elementary campus that is listed in the San Saba News & Star.

H. The T3 Grant is completed with the provision of new laptops for Middle School.

I. Substitute and Tutor Training will be September 19th.

J. The total school enrollment as of Friday, September 9th is 720.

The following Consent Agenda was approved:

1. The special minutes from September 6th meeting.

2. Amended the 2011-2012 budget as needed.

3. Allowed to pay bills.

4. The financial report as presented to the Board.

5. Accepted a donation from the Little Dllo girls basketball event in the amount of $2500.

6. Student transfers for the current school year was reviewed.

Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky, reported on the curriculum and assessments. He submitted an article to The San Saba News & Star that explained CSCOPE.

High School Principal, Woody Martin reported 206 students and a 98.24% average attendance.

Elementary Principal, Kay Shackelford reported 322 students and a 98% average attendance.

The Middle School has 192 students and a 97.66 average attendance.

The Board deliberated, took action or discussed the following unfinished business:

a. Deliberated the request from the Housing Authority to Waive Payment in Lieu of Taxes.

b. Discussed the report of Bond/Construction activity; Reviewed the Scope of the program; presented a power point presentation regarding Pros and Cons of renovation of Elementary school; and discussed setting public meetings. Paul Walters and Mike Nelson gave an estimate of $3,733,000 to renovate the elementary school with no gym. A new elementary building estimated cost (including demolition) of $4,094,118. including a gym.

New business included the following:

A. Approved the purchase of a 71 passenger diesel bus through Buy Board Purchasing Coop.

B. Approved rescinding the STAAR policy - EIC and EIE.

C. Reviewed the Concussion Policy for injury treatment and a form to return to play.

D. Teacher, Mia Stewardson is on maternity leave and will return after Thanksgiving break. A substitute teacher is taking her class until she returns.

President, Kim Kirk adjourned the meeting.
