A sprinkle of rain early Thursday morning, and nothing until late Sunday afternoon when it rained nine-tenths on the west side of the river, but nothing in downtown Bend. There were some reports of two-tenths up to one and one-half inch east of the river.

The Fourth of July (Independence Day) should be celebrated, but do keep in mind that fireworks can be dangerous and the threat of fire from setting off fireworks around dry pastures can cause lots of damage. Be on the safe side and attend places that will have fireworks for you to enjoy safely. Just think of all the money you will save, spend a little on gas and attend a safe fireworks display in Cherokee or San Saba.

Eddie Barefoot died Thursday, June 26, and graveside services were held Sunday, June 29, at the Senterfitt cemetery. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Happy to report that J.C. Barefoot left the hospital Friday and is recuperating at home in Lampasas.

Leon and Mebbie Eckhoff returned this last Friday from a trip to Sedalia, Missouri. They were accompanied by son Robbie, daughter-in-law Amy, and boys Ethan and Ory. It was a trip of both business and pleasure. New sheep were purchased and sight seeing done along the way. They visited the birthplace of Harry Truman and enjoyed a tour of the home.

Mebbie reported that Sunday afternoon the storm that blew through left one and one-half inch of rain, and a big pecan tree with lots of limbs down.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Gladys Brister and Thomas Brister who will celebrate a birthday July 6, to Barbara Bourke and Tommie Tinney who will celebrate a birthday July 8, to Chelsea Lemons and Bob Fullerton who will celebrate a birthday July 10.

Congratulations go out to Jerry and Charlene Reavis who will celebrate an anniversary on July 7, and to Phil B and Winnie Lou McCoury who will celebrate an anniversary on July 10.
