Saturday night fundraiser in Cherokee fun and very successful
Thursday, September 15, 2011 • Posted September 15, 2011

Saturday evening Cherokee VFD held its annual fish fry/bar-b-que. The turn out was fantastic. Great food was served and fun was had by all.

It is wonderful to see how close and caring this small community is. Folks would stroll around visiting table to table. Smiling faces and slaps on the back, and calls of "hello, so good to see you" were heard all around.

Lots of good food was served by community members. Sides included red beans, potato salad, green and fruit salads. Food was abundant and friendly faces as well.

After the meal these good folks got down to business. An auction was held to raise money and did they ever turn out to bid! Several ladies baked cakes for the auction which brought in $7725.00, three paintings brought $875.00, two loaves of Sue’s bread $500.00, a beautiful king size quilt made lovingly by local ladies auctioned for $1000.00.

This year is the first year that Cherokee has had an FFA program and the young members did a wonderful job on their project, a beautiful cedar box trash can cover which brought in $300.00.

Also auctioned were a Trophy Hunt donated by the Randolph family which brought $700.00 and 5 - $20 gift certificates to Cooper’s in Llano that brought $200.00.

There were two raffles, one was for a $400.00 gift certificate from Harry’s and was won by Mike McWilliams of Chappel. The quilt raffle was won by Llano National Bank.

An approximate total raised for the Cherokee VFD was $23,000.00. What a caring and giving group of people!

All in all a very fun and successful night. If you haven’t joined Cherokee before at one of their fund raisers, you really should go. Such friendly and caring people are a breath of fresh air.
