8th Grade Dillos fall to Wall

San Saba's 8th Grade Dillos were defeated by the Wall 8th Grade Hawks by a score of 18-0 at Rogan Field last Thursday night. It was the season opener for both teams.

Emiliono Rocha kicked off to Wall to start the game. The Dillo defense led by David Valencia, Holt Oliver, John Welch, Logan Guidroz, Joey Salinas and John Watson, stopped Wall and forced a punt. The Dillo offense gained a first down on runs by John Faught, John welch and Holt Oliver. David Valencia, John Watson, Jose Rubles, Roy Argote, Joey Salinas, Roberto Coronado, Ramiro Coronado, Robert Hensley and Carter Eden blocked. San Saba eventually turned over the ball on downs. The first quarter ended 0-0.

San Saba's defense shut down the Hawk running game in the second quarter. Good defensive play was provided by John Watson, Roy Argote, Joey Salinas, Logan Guidroz, Carter Eden, Roberto and Ramiro Coronado. San Saba's offense had trouble moving the ball against the Wall defense. Wall scored on a pass play late in the second quarter. The PAT failed. 6-0, Hawks at the half.

San Saba received the kick off to start the second half. Runs by Emiliono Rocha, John Faught, John Welch and Holt Oliver gained a first down before turning the ball over on downs. The Dillo defense led by David Valencia slowed the Wall Hawk attack. John Welch, Richardo Garcia, Carter Eden, John Faught and Holt Oliver turned in good performances.

Late in the 3rd quarter, Wall found a hole in the Dillo defense and scored from 40 yards out. The PAT kick failed. 12-0, Wall.

San Saba received the kick as the 3rd quarter ended. The Dillo defense could not move the ball and punted. Wall ran several plays but were stopped when David Valencia fell on a Hawk fumble. The Dillos gained a first down on runs by Oliver, Faught, Watson and Welch. The drive was stopped by a pass interception. Wall was able to move the ball for a couple of first downs. A couple of penalties and good defense by Emiliono Rocha, Logan Guidroz, Joey Salinas, Roy Argote, Richardo Garcia and John Watson gave San Saba the ball. The Dillos ran 3 plays and punted. The Hawks blocked the punt and ran it in for their final score. The PAT failed, 18-0 Wall, to end the scoring.

San Saba ran the ball for a first down but eventually gave Wall the ball back. The Hawks knelt the ball for the victory.

The Dillos played hard on defense, but lack of consistent blocking hurt our offense. The 8th Dillos play Hamilton on Rogan Field Thursday night. Hamilton changed the site, originally we were to travel there.
