Traffic at dismissal time is very congested at each of the ISD campuses. High school students park at the Armadillo Arena and must cross Wallace Street at dismissal time. At approximately 3:43 pm, please watch out for these students and the crossing guard. Middle school students cross on Wallace Street at the cross walk near the Sonic. In an effort to make departure from San Saba Elementary School safe and allow exiting the campus a bit more quickly, we are revising the afternoon pick-up plan. The plan will begin formally on September 19, but the elementary has already implemented a few changes. The goal of changing the pick up is to make certain that our students are safe, parents are able to leave the campus more quickly and walkers are released sooner.
K-2
Students in high school and middle school started their new loading procedures last week and the area has cleared sooner and has been a great deal safer. Regarding elementary notice of this change, SSES Principal, Kay Shackelford placed information in the Thursday Communication Folder last week for the students of the campus. According to Principal Shackelford, walking parents can pick up students from the office side of the school and leave campus. Elementary will continue to enforce the rule that no one crosses Church Street with students until after the car line is finished. Parents may exit from any other area. Students in the cafeteria may leave with a parent at any time, as long as they are not crossing Church Street to leave the campus. Walkers will continue to be dismissed after the car line is complete.
Please be aware as well that the blinking red lights on Commerce Street will remain flashing at all times. The red flashing lights will not be turned off at any time in the future. Thank you for your support and observation of the new procedures. As well, please be patient as the SSISD staff work to implement these new plans.

- Elementary staff located on Church Street at the primary pickup for K-2nd Pick-up linend grade will use walkie talkies to signal students and teachers stationed in the main campus parking lot notifying the next student to be picked up by the car in line. Signs have been ordered that will indicate cars should pull to a specified spot prior to stopping. As well, on Pep Rally days, a separate line will be formed and a sign will indicate where parents should drive to in order to pick up their child for Pep Rally. Families who have children located both on the K-2 side and on the 3rd and 4th grade side will retrieve their children from the 3rd and 4th grade pick up line. School personnel will make certain students will be delivered carefully to meet up with their 3rd and 4th grade siblings. When the buses have departed from their position on Storey Street, this road will be opened to through traffic. Third and 4th grade parents in this line can now either turn right on to Storey Street to circle around to pick up their middle school children or turn left to leave the elementary campus area. One other change that has already been implemented is the position of the buses when loading high school and middle school students. The buses will now be loading high school and middle school students in the parking lot of the white gym. This action will provide for safer loading and allow Commerce Street to be free from buses during dismissal time. Crossing guards will be on hand on Commerce Street, so please watch for students crossing Commerce to load the buses at the White Gym parking lot. Students commonly cross Commerce Street at dismissal time, but please keep an eye out for them.
