The few days of cooler weather were a very welcome respite from all the heat we had been having, but it was short lived as we are back in the one hundred again this week. No rain in sight for most of Texas.

Jerome and Shirley Meischen reported on their trip to Tennessee where they attended the wedding of their granddaughter, Quincee Blake to Jason Caton. They stayed in an old house that was three stories high and had been visited by six presidents. Most of the family, including the groom’s parents stayed there. An outdoor wedding had been planned but, it started to rain on the wedding day and everything had to be moved into the old tobacco barn which was a very neat place to have it. A tent was put over the dinning area and the rain kept coming. Even with all the rain it was a beautiful wedding. The

new couple left for the Carribean for a honeymoon. The couple will fly back to Los Angeles where our granddaughter will get her PHD then we can call her Dr. Quincee. It is a shame that Jerome and Shirley couldn’t bring some of the rain back home with them.

Raymond Hicks reported on the Labor Day picnic held by the Democratic Women Association of Lampasas. It was the 14th annual Picnic and held on Sept 5 at the Hostess House in Lampasas. The event was attended by more than 100 people from Bend, Lampasas and surrounding counties. The Hicks’ prepared hamburgers, hotdogs and Veggie burgers. Karin and Laura Beth Hicks prepared cupcakes and OraBeth baked a cake for the auction. Laura Beth and Catherine Ann Hicks managed the "gate." They collected more volunteer donations than was ever received by anyone’s memory. The picnic was lots of fun with

informative and stimulating speeches from Office holders and want to be office holders.

Hugo and Lesa Preece along with Malissa Lemons went to Kempner Sunday and joined Eric and Ashley Hernandez who was camping on the Lowe family place over the weekend and hunting dove. Eric and Hugo did the cooking for the group, while the three ladies stayed in the camper playing cards and dominoes out of the high wind. Lots of shots were taken, but very few dove. It seemed everyone had a good time.

Hugo and Lesa left on a trip to Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico in search of cooler weather this past week and a much needed rest.

Gennifer Brister reported that the two Brister boys’ Dillon and Dean

finished their horse season on Saturday. Both boys competed in the LRC High Point series and did very well. An awards banquet will be held in December where they will receive their awards.

Dillon lost his first tooth and the tooth fairy was really good to him leaving him $10.00. Wow! The price of the tooth fairy has certainly gone up these days.

Tommy Grant, Gennifer’s father competed in a church roping held in Salado at the 3C Cowboy Church arena. It is a series of roping and in November he should know if he won a saddle. Other news about the Grants’ family, Tyler her nephew is a freshman at the Salado ISD and in the drum-line. His picture was in the Waco Tribune Herald last Friday.
