Have you ever thought about all the different ways you can use rice? It is one staple that should always be kept in the pantry. It is a basic that could be used for a quick meal. Brown rice is considered a whole grain and contains more nutrients and fiber than white rice. You remember that according to the My Plate guidelines that half of your grains should be whole. Here are some ideas for cooked rice.

1. Make a quick fried rice by heating oil in skillet and add finely chopped vegetables, a beaten egg, some cooked rice and a dash of soy sauce.

2. Microwave with cooked beans, shredded cheese and some salsa.

3. Simmer with milk and fruit for a hot breakfast cereal.

4. Make a casserole by combining rice, leftover meat, a small package of frozen vegetables and a can of cream of mushroom soup.
