Same song, second verse. The Richland Springs Coyotes continued their rendition of "Waltz Across Texas" with a resounding defeat of the Division I, 16
Denim Reeves and Chance Bush shared the lead vocals, while Tra Williams and Danny Tillery supplied the thunderous bass line. Ben VanCleave and Patrick Phillips played harmony which featured solo spots for both. Instrumental in the victory were Thomas Fowler, Gunner and Ty Mann, Cory Bessent, Jonathan Patino and Trevor Tinney, with backstage support provided by Winston Poe, Corey Turner, Stanley Butler, Joe Avila, Dillon Parker, Chris Munoz and Justin Trevino.
The Coyotes needed just one offensive play from scrimmage, in the third period, to close the curtain on this Friday night performance. The Eagles’ onside kick to start the third period. was promptly returned for six points, on a powerful run by Chance Bush. The Coyote defense, then held the Eagles on four straight downs, and Denim Reeves wasted no time in connecting with Tra Williams on a pass for 6 pts, ending the show via the Mercy Rule.
2010 Entertainer of the Year, Denim Reeves(not a stage name) hit all the right notes with 183 yards rushing on 17 carries for 4 touchdowns and 4 of 6 completions for 122 yards and 2 TDs, with an additional 41 yards in kick returns for a total of 346 yards in total offense. Chance Bush, aka "Dude"(no last name necessary), not a stranger to center stage, added 4 touchdowns on his own label, 2 on kick returns for 109 yards, and 2 rushing Tds, on only 3 attempts for 78 yards. Newcomer of the Year candidate, Patrick Phillips, caught two passes, one for a score and another for a 72 yard gain. Ben VanCleave and Danny Tillery both had nice runs for big gains and Tillery caught one of Reeves passes for a 21 yard pickup. Tra Williams made a nice catch and run for the final score of the game.
Tra Williams was hamming it up on defense, recording 5 solo tackles and 6 assists, while Denim Reeves, Thomas Fowler, Chance Bush, Ben VanCleave, all tried to upstage him with their own defensive performances. The "Mann Brothers", Gunner and Ty, made it into the spotlight as well, with their own solo tackles.
Coach Burkhart was not overly concerned with the 20 points scored by the talented Eagles, as adjustments were made, and the Coyotes were able to shut down, the balanced attack of the Eagles, midway into the second quarter. Coach Shawn Rogers seemed pleased with the latest additions to the already powerful offense and the new options they bring to the table. Point after touchdown kicks are still an issue, with a battle for the starting spot shaping up between Trevor Tinney and Jonathan Patino. The Coyotes suffered no significant injuries this week.
Head Coach Jerry Burkhart and his troup will host the Panther Creek Panthers this Friday, at 7:30 pm on their home stage. Coach Burkhart said, the Panthers are a fine team and will be a major test for the Coyotes this week. The Panthers beat Blanket 72-32 in their opening contest. The Coyotes Junior Varsity will open their schedule at Panther Creek on Thursday at 7:30 pm. Go Coyotes!!!!
