What a great first week of school! I am into my 32

Obviously, the students, teachers and staff get all the credit, as some have been working since the first of July on getting ready for the start of school. Normally the start of school is difficult and it feels like you are "re-inventing the wheel." Of course, with the proper preparation, it does not have to be like this.

We have several new things going on this year at SSHS. In an attempt to highlight and enhance academics, we are having our first ever Academic Booster Club. This club seeks to "promote and enhance excellence in academics, for all students." There will be many chances for folks to get involved. At the next home football game, there will be a booth set up to familiarize yourself with the club and to afford you the opportunity to join up.SSHS will promote great academic results and good behavior this year with the PRIDE program. Pride stands for Personal Responsibility in Daily Effort. To be eligible for this program, the students need to score at least a 75 in every class this grading period. Next grading period they will need to score a 78, an 83 in the third grading period and then an 88 in the last grading period. It is evident that the requirements get progressively tougher as the school year progresses. We anticipate that the students will try a bit harder and then our overall scores will follow that DAILY EFFORT. Also being calculated into the equation is, being accountable for being tardy, discipline referrals, attendance and paying class dues this grading period, which is nine weeks long.

We also are going to institute a mentoring program for each San Saba High School student. We are quickly getting to the number of mentors that we need to make each mentor have approximately four students to be accountable for. Our mentors will be helping to encourage our students in the correct academic priorities. We are about to close the need for more mentors so call today if you had planned on it and just have not made that first call.

Great things are happening at SSHS and we are very proud of our students.

And yet, we are RAISING THE BAR!

nd year of education and I must say that this last week ranks up there are maybe the best week ever. I can say with great certainty, that this was the very best FIRST WEEK of school I have ever seen.
