Late Sunday afternoon a drop or two of rain was felt, just enough to let you know what it felt like to hear a drop or two on the tin roof, but not enough to wet the ground. They are saying maybe a chance of rain the end of this week, but don’t hold your breath. Reading and hearing reports from different ones say that rain may not come until sometime late next year. More and more of the native trees are dying and even some of the pecan trees. All thoughts of a Fall garden are in limbo unless you have a strong well or have some other source of water. It would surely be nice to have some of the rain

that folks around the east coast received, but not all the damage that they have experienced.

Billy Bub McCoury is now in the San Saba nursing home. All of his friends can visit him there.

An error was made in last week’s Bend news. It was reported that Autumn Brown was in Lubbock, she was in Lubbock but her name is still Autumn Edwards not Brown. Have no idea where the name Brown came from just one of those things that seem to happen when writing the news. At least you know people are reading the paper when you make a mistake.

A welcome mat is offered to Mike and Tracey Thomas who have moved from the city of San Saba to the Bend area. The city life must have gotten to be too much for them and they longed for the peace and quiet you get in the country. They will surely miss all the traffic and bright lights of San Saba. They recently purchased the Joe Newberry property located on FM 580.

Visitors in the home of Tommye Cobern over the weekend were her grandson Adam Marley and his wife Becka and great grand children Kameron, Kadance and three week old Kaleb.

Jolene Lively reported that she wasn’t having the pain that she had been suffering after her fall so that is a good thing.

Bernice and LaFayne Porter have help that is coming in to assist them and everything seems to be better for them.

A birthday celebration was held for Eric Hernandez in the home of his parents Hugo and Lesa Preece Sunday. His birthday is on Tuesday, August 30, but whose counting. Those attending to wish him a happy birthday was his wife Ashley, grandmother Malissa Lemons, brother Clay Bradley, sister Kristen Preece and Ytaga Fields of Killeen, Brandon and Alisa Preece of Lampasas. Everyone enjoyed the special Strawberry Cheesecake made by Lesa, which Eric had requested instead of the usual birthday cake.

Thursday night 10 people met at the home of William and Jane Clark to play games. Saturday night William and Jane Clark attended the going away party of Darnell and Mary Boyd of Lampasas. Darnell will no longer be preaching at the Lometa Church of Christ, but on occasion will be at the Bend Church of Christ.

Sunday a birthday celebration for Kristi Messer was held in the home of William and Jane Clark. Those attending was Doug Messer and children Jordan and Jaylee, Jamie Houdyshell boys A.J. and Andrew, Bobby Clark of Round Rock and Danny Clark of Bastrop, Steve, Denita Bynum and children J.D. and Lori of Lampasas.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Penny Pierce who will celebrate a birthday Wednesday, September 1, and to Carl Adams whose birthday is September 3, to Myra Skinner whose birthday is September 4, to Audrey Jo Henniger whose birthday is September 5 and to Jane Clark who will celebrate a birthday September 7 and to Andrew Houdyshell whose birthday is September 8.

Congratulations go out to George and Mary Jane Dennis who will celebrate an anniversary September 1, and to Trenton and Patsy Hamrick who will celebrate

an anniversary September 2.
