San Saba County 4-H activities

If my child joins 4-H, what does he/she do? We are often asked that question here at the Co. Extension Office. Here is a little information about some of the projects we do. A youth can sign up for any activity he or she is interested in. For more information or to sign up call the Co. Extension Office at 325-372-5416 or email us at cl-mcdowell@tamu.edu.

4-H Food Fun Day will be held Saturday October 1

Livestock Show Projects

San Saba County youth also begin livestock show projects in the fall. Lamb, goat, and swine are available for the youth to show at the county livestock show in January. Validation for goats and lambs is October 15

Shooting Sports & Archery

The Shooting Sports or light rifle project is under the direction of Kenley Kroll and David May. This project meets January through April. The safety class is mandatory before beginning the practice sessions. The competition, Extravaganza, is held in April at the State 4-H Center on Lake Brownwood. Some rifles are available for youth to use by a donation from the National Rifle Association. The 4-H archery project is under the direction of Ricky Maddox. They meet January through April. The archery contest is also held at Extravaganza in April at the State 4-H Center.

Spring/Summer projects include: Photography, Share-the-Fun, Education Presentations, Clothing and Leaders 4 Life.

Youth will be preparing a Chinese lunch to eat complete with chop sticks. To reserve your spot call the extension office at 372-5416. Cost of the workshop is $10.00 with a price reduction with more than one child. The fee includes lunch and each youth will take home some ingredients to help them prepare the same meal at home for their families. Other parts of the project include: County Food Show in October and District Food Show in November. th and swine validations is November 19th.
