You may think I am crazy, but the first day of school is my favorite day of the year. Most people would say Christmas, Thanksgiving or that even the last day of school is their favorite day but for me, the first day is my favorite because I like seeing the excitement of the kiddos. For example, it is so exciting when the students see their friends for the first time in months, seeing the PK and kindergarten students on their very first day of school, and seeing the excited middle school students who have either changed buildings or jumped across the hallway to the 7

Even though school has started and soon fall will be upon us, there is no break from the heat. We took extra precautions with our football players during before school practices and our band in summer band camp, and we will continue to take precautions with students at school in regard to the heat. In an effort to keep our bus riders hydrated, we will be providing bottles of water to the students once they are headed off on the bus routes. As well, water in the PE facilities, at lunch and throughout the day will be made available to the students. So far most air conditioners are holding, but we have replaced three units since June and we are hoping we can make it with out replacing more.

Please remember that you can view your child’s grades and attendance through a special function called the Parent Portal. Information for you to sign up to use this service was provided in the registration packet. The system will not be operational until September 5, 2011. Please be patient with us as our Education Service Center prepares this system for operation. As well, please sign up for the email and text alerts that are available from our website.

th and 8th grade side. Its all about seeing the potential in these students that make it such a joy. Regardless of the campus, it is fun to watch the kiddos return to school and it is wonderful to have them back. For me too, this time of year reminds me just how important what we do at school really is. Today I ran in to a parent who dropped their kiddo off for the very first time and they are torn between tears of excitement and tears of sadness that their little one is growing up. This picture should remind each and every one of us just how precious time is with children and how we should make the most of each and every day with the kiddos regardless of our position with them.
